Are you ready for an eventful month of March? This year we are doing the entire month of March, Multicultural month. In our classroom, we are going to be learning about many different cultures. We will be focusing on Germany, India, Ireland and China. The children are going to have the opportunity to learn about different cultures’ food, clothing, art and more. We have been preparing and collecting material for the children to use in March. We have rented multicultural educational materials from UMSL so the children can have hands on material to interact with. They will not only learn about clothes from India, they will be able to try them on and see themselves in the mirror. Also, we are not only talking about different food, we are going to be cooking and trying new foods during March as well. We have planned items on the lunch menu from the countries the classrooms are focusing on.
Also for the month of March we have some special events planned. On March 18th, Colleen, a student from Bishop DuBourg is going to come in and perform an Irish Dance for all the children. On March 23rd, all the children will be “traveling around the world”. We have scheduled the program, Kids Around the World. they have materials representing different countries. The children will be able to make an art project, parade dragons, try on clothes and look at artifacts from: China, Senegal, Philippines, Korea. After participating in Kids Around the World program the children will then have the opportunity to “travel around the world” by doing activities the teachers have set up in the hallway.
We are looking forward to Mulitcultural Month! It will be something new and exciting for everyone. Also, thank you to the parents that volunteered to help on the 23rd or to do any activity with the children.
Parents: It’s not too late to participate in multicultural month! If you would like to do an activity with the children that would be great. You can come in anytime in march and do any project or activity you would like. It could be as simple as reading a story from another culture or if you have extra time, you could do an art activity, play a game or make some food. The ideas are endless!
